- The File Transfer item from the Settings menu lets you adjust the options that Term-Plus© has for sending and receiving files. When invoked, this item displays a dialog box that holds all of the options.
- The "B Protocol Enabled" item controls whether or not Term-Plus© recognizes the start of B Protocol transfers. The control character that starts a B Protocol transfer can sometimes be generated by "noise" on the phone line, causing Term-Plus to appear to lock up. If you see a lot of strange characters on the screen, it may be a good idea to disable this item until you need to start a file transfer.
- The "MacBinary Format Enabled" item tells Term-Plus© to use and recognize the MacBinary file format when sending or receiving a file using either the B or XMODEM protocols. Disable this function when you are about to receive a binary file that is not specific to the Macintosh (such as .ARC files common in the IBM world, and some graphics formats generated by CompuServe such as GIF).
- The "Send Linefeed After Carriage Return" option tells Term-Plus© to insert a linefeed character after ever carriage return it sends in a text file. This option should be left on whenever you're sending a text file to CompuServe.
- The "Send 1K Blocks in XMODEM" item tells Term-Plus© to use 1024-byte (1K) blocks when uploading files using the XMODEM protocol. Term-Plus© always recognizes and uses 1K blocks during XMODEM downloads.
- The "Use YMODEM-g for XMODEM Downloads" item tells Term-Plus© to expect only the YMODEM-g protocol. The "XMODEM Receive" item in the File Menu will change to "YMODEM Receive" when this item is checked. *WARNING* Normal XMODEM downloads will fail if this item is enabled. Be sure you have the right choice set when you begin the file transfer.
- The "Wait For Prompt Character" option tells Term-Plus© to wait to receive a specified character before sending the next line when using the "Send Text File" item in the File menu. You specify the character to be waited for by entering it in the "Prompt Character" edit box at the top of the dialog window. The Prompt Character can be a <CTRL> character, just remember to preceed the entry with a caret ("^") as you do with macro strings.
- When the wait for prompt option is enabled, Term-Plus© always sends the first line of the file automatically without waiting, but from then on, it will
- always wait for the specified prompt. This option is most useful for those accessing CompuServe via a remote packet network such as TYMNET, TELENET, or DataPak and whenever the system response time seems sluggish. It helps let the host system "catch up" since Term-Plus© can sometimes send information faster than the network can handle it.
- The "Text File Signature" item sets the CREATOR for all text files generated by Term-Plus©. This signature "attatches" the text files to word processing software so that you can double-click on the document's icon in the Finder and have it launch the program of your choice. The default setting, "TPLM", launches Term-Plus© and opens that document.
